The Queen today appointed Amanda Wakeley an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year 2010 Honours List.
The award, for services to the British Fashion Industry, also recognises the considerable contribution that Amanda Wakeley makes as founding co-Chair of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, a charity which has raised around £10m to raise awareness and fund research into Breast Cancer since the charity was set up in 1996.
Amanda said: “I am extremely humbled by this honour. It is also recognition for the talented and committed teams that I am fortunate to work with both in my own business and at Fashion Targets. It’s an incredible way to complete an extraordinary year.”
She launched her signature label in 1990 and over the last two decades has developed a worldwide reputation for stylish, luxurious, womenswear and accessories. She is the winner of several awards including three British Fashion Awards for Glamour.
In April 2009, Amanda completed the buy-back of her business, saving over 50 jobs across the UK. Since then, she has relaunched her brand, opened a new Flagship Store and achieved critical acclaim when she returned to London Fashion Week last September. Celebrity fans include Mischa Barton, Queen Rania of Jordan, Nigella Lawson and Mariah Carey - and if Amanda's good enough for Mariah and no fewer than two Queens, she's alright by us.
