For years we watched Nicole Richie tear across America with best pal Paris Hilton in a whirlwind of scandal and embarrassment.
Little did we know that Nicole would soon become a responsible mum of two with her own business and the respect of the fashion industry.
But it seems her tempestuous past has left Ms Richie with some permanent reminders she'd rather forget.
Speaking in the latest issue of InStyle magazine, Nicole revealed that she does have regrets, particularly about her tattoos: "I'm a Virgo and the sign is a virgin. So when I was 16 I got the word virgin tattoos on my wrist, thinking I was <i>sooo</i> deep and cool.
"And now I just look really weird having virgin written across my wrist and I have to explain it."
And there's no denying Nicole has been through some troubled times, having battled drug addiction and severe weight fluctuations since first appearing on the celebrity circuit in 2003. Happily, the fashion designer is now at a stage where she can talk about her past in a serene way: "One thing about me is that I've always taken responsibility for my own actions whether they're good or bad. Even when I was going through my tough time, that was a situation I created.
"People ask me, do I blame Hollywood or my parents? No I don't blame my parents (adoptive father Lionel Richie). It had nothing to do with them. I created it and manifested it and I got myself through it with the help of a lot of great people."
Having battled her demons, what's life like for Nicole now? With fiance Joel Madden, and two children, Harlow and Sparrow, is she just a run-of-the-mill working mum or an enviable domestic goddess? "Well, I don't have a hat or an apron, but I entertain at home a lot. I love cooking for other people."
We expect an invitation to dinner any day now.
