Our style journalist visits one of the famous RUSH hair salons to see if it lives up to its reputation.
The team at RUSH were just rewarded for their artistic work at the British Hairdressing Awards, but would the team at their new Ludgate salon be able to make us happy?

THE TREATMENT
What better way to test a new salon than with a full head of highlights and a cut and blow-dry? RUSH have over 50 salons in the UK, but their Ludgate salon (situated just a few minutes from St Paul's station) is new.
Said highlights are perfect for brightening up fading blonde hair or giving you that just-back-from-holiday hue (perfect for the middle of winter, I'm sure you'll agree).
A simple cut and blow-dry is probably your hair treatment of choice – even if you avoid going to the hairdresser like the dentist you'll still need the occasional trim.
WHAT'S INVOLVED
On arrival at the RUSH salon my shopping bags were whisked away, and I was offered a glass of wine and settled in to my styling station. An excellent start. The salon is relatively small and felt busy and cosy, not too stuffy and quiet like some London salons can be. My wonderful stylist Lucy then talked me through what I wanted (something fairly low-maintenance but that lifted my colour) and set to work. Over-friendly hairdressers are one of my pet hates, but Lucy was happy to chat when I wanted to or leave me be when I stuck my nose in a book.
When the colour was applied I was left with a head of foils to enjoy a drink and my book, being checked on once in a while to see how the colour was coming along and make sure I hadn't nodded off. The colour was
then washed out, toner applied and a thorough wash and head massage undertaken. Ask the staff at RUSH to treat you to a wash with their luxurious range from Shu Uemura.
For the cut, I asked Lucy to keep it as long as possible and unlike most stylists, she actually listened. My hair was left healthier but not four inches shorter.
THE VERDICT
If, like me, you find a trip to the hairdresser's a bit of an ordeal, the folk at RUSH will make you feel relaxed and pampered. My finished style was beautifully highlighted, with natural streaks put through to ease regrowth. I would (and will) recommend to friends and family. This salon gets full marks from me.
