Harry Styles being naughty with his BRIT 02.12 - 1Let us talk you through that Harry Styles picture.

It took Twitter by storm last night as the One Direction boys walked home with the award for Best British Single.

We were backstage at the 2012 BRIT Awards, and boy was it fun.

Awards ceremonies are a busy affair for those involved. When we hopped on the tube to the O2 Arena, we had little idea of what was in store for our evening.

(We also failed to bump into our Sky Living talent, Rihanna, who took the same tube - darn it.)

The atmosphere at the arena was quite simply, electric. Thousands of fans had turned out to see their favourite stars on the red carpet, and whether it was Kylie Minogue, Jessie J, Keith Lemon or Zayn Malik they were after - none were left disappointed by their idols.

The stars were hurried inside in time for the live show, and our celebrity journalists got to work. Rachel David was sitting inside the ceremony, so had a clear view of the tables, where Eastenders' Sid Owen shared a bottle of wine with Adele and Alan Carr got his groove on to Blur.

Meanwhile, backstage, Rebecca Martin was busy tweeting away as the event happened. But here at Sky Living we're not satisifed with free sandwiches, wine and Curly Wurlys, no siree.

We wanted in on the action, so set about hitting the backstage area for some exclusive access to the stars.

While we kept our ears peeled for whispers of a secret JLS gig, we followed security round to the back of the stage, where the winners were gathering to share their glory with the waiting press.

First up was the gorgeous Emeli Sande. The tiny Scot with the big voice seemed genuinely touched by her Critics Choice Award. She told us: "I'm going to put it on top of my piano."

Aww. We'd totes do the same. If we had a piano. And a BRIT.

Emeli's limelight was swiftly followed by that of Coldplay, who clutched their Best British Group accolade with nervous pride. It's astounding how shy Chris Martin is. (We've decided this makes him incredibly fanciable.)

Yes, really. Mr Gwyneth Paltrow told us that the only reason he had won, was because "Take That have been on holiday".

We also couldn't take her eyes off off Chris and his band's paint-splattered clothes. Gwynnie you might want to hide the paints from Apple and Moses, in future.

But by far our favourite moment of the night was when One Direction descended on the winners' room. As the boys picked up the award for Best British Single on the stage, the assembled journalists erupted in cheers - proving that these young boys are just as popular with the press as they are with the ladies.

The boys fought over their BRIT, telling us that the only solution to the one-award-situation, was to photocopy the gong.

Asked who they'd most like to snog that evening, all five 1D stars announced "Adele" and "Rihanna" at once. We're not sure the photocopying malarky will work for sharing these two hot mamas, but they can always try.

Harry Styles, being the cheeky chappie he is, then stood holding his gong suggestively by his groin.

Now, call us naughty, but we think this was entriely intentional. And pointed in our direction, obvs.

Sadly, we couldn't stalk the boys any longer, but we had enough time to decide we heart Harry and want to put Niall in our pocket.

A quick dash to retrieve our phone charger from the media room resulted in a lovely little tour of the backstage rooms - we might have accidentally ended up in a restricted area though, whoopsie.

Fluttering fake eyelashes at security guards will get you everywhere these days, people. We bumped in to Queen legends Brian May and Roger Taylor, who are just as cool in real life. Though Bri's hair is looking increasingly like Lydia Rose Bright's mum Debbie's.

By the end of the ceremony, we were all tweeted out - but we did have time to hit the official after-show party.

Purely for research purposes, we had a go on the dodgems at the fairground-themed bash, danced with pretend Policemen and stalked the dancefloor for celebs. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

We didn't make it to the bash that Harry and his ex Caroline Flack were at, but we reckon the boy behaved himself... we know flirting when we see it and that was definitely a come-on from Hazza.

Defo.
