But Lewis Hamilton can't have had more than two syllables to say to his ex at this meeting.
The once-smitten pair looked a sorry sight as Nic fully embraced her former lover - and he couldn't even bring himself to take his hand out of his pocket.
A tender touch on the streets of LA, it wasn't.
The A-list couple split last month after four years together and despite going their separate ways, it seems there's still some unfinished business between the race ace and the Pussycat Doll.
Nicole's currently filming The US X Factor, while Lewis has been busy celebrating his recent F1 win at Abu Dhabi but they put aside their monster careers for five minutes to have a natter in an LA car park.
As you do.
After an awkward-looking chat, Lewis could barely lift his eyes from the ground as Nicole looked on, mightily peeved.
Oh, to have been a fly on the bonnet of that Mercedes.
Using our powers of deduction, we'd say Nic was putting a lot more heart and soul into the convo than Lewis.
In fact, we're taking a punt here, but we reckon their heart-wrenching interchange went a little like this...
Nicole: "Come on Loo-loo, talk to me. Say something."
Lewis: "So, I, er, won the race last weekend. Did you watch it?"
Nicole: "Nope, sorry babe. I was washing my hair - it doesn't swish like this by itself, you know."
Lewis: "Yeah, right. Course not. Still doing that singing show at the weekends, are you?"
Nicole: "Heck yes, it's going to make me a bigger star than ever. It's supposed to be a talent show but there's no one on there as good as me."
Lewis: "Hmmm, sure."
Nicole: "So, here's the thing, sweetie. I'm lonely. And you were my ticket to winning over the Brits. You sure you don't want to get back together? I'd even overlook the ridiculous shellsuit situation."
Lewis: "Look love, I've never got so much attention since we split the other week, and I only really wanted to meet up to get my Gary Barlow CD back off you. Sozzas."
Or something...
