The news of their split was as public as the former couple's PDAs.

Seal wasted no time in talking about his divorce from Heidi Klum last month.

Now he says it's time he gave us "some kind of explanation".

Within days of Heidi filing for divorce in January, Seal appeared on TV show after TV show - and he didn't hold back from discussing the breakdown of their seven-year marriage.

He told Ellen DeGeneres: "We were shocked because you go into these things with the greatest intentions, you know, when you say 'I do,' when you say, 'Till death do us part,' those vows hold value. They're not just words."

The singer also took the opportunity to point out that he was still wearing his wedding ring, telling Ellen: "What this means to me and what this stands for - it stands for respect, it stands for loyalty, it stands for incredible memories and it stands for these four little miracles and Heidi making five that have come into my life over the past eight years."

But now the rings are off and Seal's taken to the air once again to defend his post-split verbal diarrhoea.

Speaking on an Australian radio show, he said: "When you publicise your marriage as much as our marriage was publicised, when you renew wedding vows, when you do all those things... you're giving people a picture of an ideal relationship that people aspire to.

"When it goes south, you can't all of a sudden take the philosophy of a monk and decide to go for a vow of silence. It doesn't really work like that."

Surely there's some middle ground between a vow of silence and full disclosure, though, Seal?

Heidi, 38, chose to keep things a little more low-key, tweeting a single statement that read: "Hi everyone, I want to thank u for all your support & kind words. Really means so much. Thanks again...to the best fans in the world! xoHeidi" (sic).

Forty-nine-year-old Seal told radio hosts Fifi and Jules: "I respect my wife's decision not to talk about (it), but I felt that people at least deserved some kind of explanation why the picture of the ideal wasn't what they thought it was."

The dad-of-four has been criticised for making such a profilic number of public appearances in the wake of the couple's split, but he insists that it was just a case of bad timing as he was already booked to promote his new album when the news broke.

He said: "It's not like this happened and I decided the next week to go on the show.

"I've tried my very best to protect the general welfare of my family, my wife included."
