When I was offered the chance to try out Lash Perfect eyelash extensions I jumped at the opportunity.
I was going to be bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding and the thought of having long fluttering lashes, and not having to wear mascara which inevitably was going to end up streaked down my face, was just the finishing touch that my look needed for the day.
So I headed off to Space NK in London's trendy Westbourne Grove to see what it involved.
The Treatment:
Lash Perfect uses synthetic individual lashes that are glued on to your own top lashes with a special glue. There are three lash lengths to choose from so you can have them to look as subtle or as obvious as you like. As I have naturally fair lashes I was advised to tint them before my Lash Perfect treatment so that the black lashes would blend in perfectly. If you're feeling particularly daring the lashes are also available in blue, green, violet, wine and brown. The treatment is available in salons nationwide and Space NK, which is my nearest stockist so that's where I skipped off to.
What's Involved:
When I got to Space NK I was led to a beautiful treatment room where my therapist and I had a chat about the look that I was after. I wanted longer, fuller-looking lashes that flicked out slightly at the edges. My main concern was that I wanted them to look as natural as possible whilst still being glam enough for the wedding. I most definitely didn't want to end up with eyelashes that finished up by my eyebrows. Then all I had to do was lie down, shut my eyes and relax. It's hard to say what happened next as I had my eyes shut throughout the treatment and you can't really feel anything that's happening. I occasionally was aware of a very faint smell of glue, but it really is minor, a small comb occasionally being brushed through my lashes and my therapist gently touching my eyelid, and that really is it! At one point I wondered if it was all a big hoax and I was going to open my eyes and my lashes would look exactly the same but lo and behold after just over an hour, I sat up, opened my eyes and looked in the mirror to see a gorgeous set of lashes fluttering back at me.
The Verdict:
The lashes were exactly what I wanted - full, long and tapering out at the edges to give a really sexy look that still managed to look subtle. My therapist then explained to me that I could treat my lashes as normal, showering, swimming, putting contact lenses in - none of it is a problem. The only no-nos are using any oil-based products around my eyes - this includes mascara and eye make-up remover but I was given a Lash Perfect mascara and eye make-up remover to use instead.
The lashes lasted perfectly for the wedding which was a few days after my treatment and I got lots of compliments on them. And then over the next two weeks I noticed that they were falling out as my natural lashes would. The lashes lasted 3 weeks in total, but considering I swim and run a lot and am generally quite forceful when washing my face, I was impressed with their staying power. I think they're the perfect treatment to have if you're going on holiday and don't want to worry about wearing mascara or if, like me, you have an occasion that you want to look extra special for.
